state House and Senate. By early October 2012, still without a site or plans, Wayne County commissioners earmarked $2 million for the project. They later increased the earmark to $4 million. The action was taken to demonstrate that the county was serious about the project to replace the aging Wayne Center that was built in the late 1950s. In December of that year the committee originally formed to study the feasibility of building the center expanded its scope to include the county's agriculture and agri-business community as a whole. The group, now known as the Wayne County Agriculture Advisory Committee, formed two subcommittees — funding and facility.
