The county's new showpiece, located at the intersection of Wayne Memorial Drive and New Hope Road, officially opens in early March. Wade, hired in May 2017, has been gearing up for this since. From working on policies and job descriptions to how the facility will be used once it's open to creating a budget and purchasing equipment, Wade's focus has also been on factoring space usage. Opening weekend, Thursday, March 1, through Sunday, March 4, will feature a number of activities, catering to every demographic, he said. Thursday will feature a ribbon cutting followed by an Ag Expo, with an invitation- only gala on Friday evening. Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. will be a family open house plus games and entertainment. On Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. will be open house with entertainment from Wayne County Public Schools students, and a youth rally at 5 p.m. "I think people should be very proud of this building," he said. "We have been giving tours and talking to people about renting (space) in the building. "Some of the things they are saying, 'Wow, this is a whole lot bigger than we thought,' 'It's much nicer than I expected' and 'I don't feel like I'm in Goldsboro.' In other words, there's nothing else like this in Goldsboro, and it's nice." In the long run, Wade says he believes this will not only draw from the local community, but other counties as well. He said he is already receiving great feedback from agencies and organizations that have outgrown facilities for their events and are excited about having JAMES WADE JR., DIRECTOR OF THE MAXWELL REGIONAL AGRICULTURAL AND CONVENTION CENTER, SAYS OPENING WEEKEND FOR THE COUNTY'S SHOWPIECE WILL BE FULL OF ACTIVITIES, CATERING TO EVERYONE, AND IN THE LONG RUN, THE CENTER WILL NOT ONLY BE A DRAW FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY BUT FOR THE REGION.
