Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, the drama series traces the rise of al-Qaida and the dy- namics between counterter- rorism agencies leading up to the 9/11 attacks. Premiering Wednesday, Feb. 28, on Hulu, the 10-episode series follows the FBI's I-49 Squad in New York and the CIA's Alec Sta- tion in Washington, D.C., two counterterrorism divisions. They're fighting for informa- tion while working towards the same goal — preventing an attack on U.S. soil. Heavy- weight actor Jeff Daniels stars in the series as John O'Neill, the bullheaded chief of the I-49 Squad. Daniels is no stranger to heavy dramas, either. He's starred in "The Squid and the Whale" (2005), Netflix's "Godless" and HBO's "The Newsroom," the latter earning him an Emmy. O'Neill is convinced that al- Qaida will attack the U.S., but he finds himself in irons when he must work with the CIA. Along with Muslim- American FBI agent Ali Sou- fan (Tahar Rahim, "A Proph- et"), O'Neill must deal with Martin Schmidt (Peter Sars- gaard, "Shattered Glass," 2003), an antagonistic know- it-all from the CIA. Schmidt's convinced his agency should handle all international ter- rorist threats, so O'Neill and Soufan must fight to get any information from him or his protégé, Diane Marsh (Wrenn Schmidt, "The Ameri- cans"). After the bombing of two American embassies, however, O'Neill and Soufan must take their investigation overseas. If you're looking for a Brit- ish drama that's focused on character, look no further than "Ackley Bridge." Pre- miering Monday, Feb. 26, on Acorn TV, the series takes on tough subjects such as race, sexuality and online harass- ment. After a Caucasian and Asian community integrates into one school, space gets tight. The merge challenges headmistress Mandy most of all, as she mediates conflict between friends, teachers and problem pupils until the dust settles. "EastEnders'" Jo Joyner plays Mandy, and Paul Nicholls ("Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason," 2004) stars as Steve Bell. Adil Ray also plays a central role as Sadiq Nawaz. Ray made his debut in BBC2's "Bellamy's People" and is an exceptional per- former in today's comedy scene.
