Member Profile BVBA good fi t for home-based business Longtime member sees benefi ts of business fair By Dave Woods NWA Democrat-Gazette Mary Louise Harris has a long time love of Mary Kay Cosmetics. e home-based business owner also has a long- time relationship with the Bella Vista Business Association. "I've been in since 1997," the former bank personnel o cer said. "I decided I would have a booth at the business fair and it was very successful. You couldn't sell anything at the booth, but you could take names and give prizes. It was a wonderful way to make contacts. I'm really glad I did it." Although Mary Louise said she can't really remember how many times she has participated in the annual event, she knows it was a success for her business. "I got into it early in living here and I'm glad I did," she added. Mary Louise doesn't get to many BVBA meetings any more, but she still maintains her membership and continues to operate her Mary Kay business from home. "Mine is a di erent type of business," she explained. "It's a home-based business and people come to me. Since I've gotten older, I don't have to deliver the orders like I did for years. ey come to me because I live central and in the middle of Bella Vista." You can tell when talking with Mary Louise that she still has a passion for what she does. She believes in the power of Mary Kay. "Mary Kay's philosophy turned me on," she said. "It's God rst, family second and career third. I thought that was a really good philosophy to have in business. It's always worked for me. It's a good environment. ere aren't a lot of businesses like that any more." Mary Louise laughed when she talked about attending Mary Kay conventions. e Bella Vista transplant even met the cosmetics icon on several occasions. "She was just a plain little old sweet lady," Mary Louise recounted. "She used to say, 'fake it till you make it.' We had to learn a lot of stu so she would just say, 'fake it until you make it.'
