Together they provide world-wide, deployable aircraft and personnel capable of delivering dominant air power whenever the nation calls. To accomplish this mission, the 4th FW operates the multi- role, all weather F-15E Strike Eagle and the 916th ARW operates the KC-135R Stratotanker. Together, these units are known as Team Seymour. Seymour Johnson AFB is part of the 9th Air Force, headquartered at Shaw AFB, SC, and Air Combat Command, headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA. The 4th FW is separated into four groups: the 4th Operations Group, 4th Mission Support Group, 4th Maintenance Group and the 4th Medical Group. These units are comprised of more than 6,000 Airmen who maintain a constant state of combat readiness. AIR DOMINANCE STORIED PAST The 4th FW has a proud heritage dating back to the volunteers of the Royal Eagle Squadrons of WWII. Throughout every major conflict since then, the 4th FW has answered the call of duty and provided superior support in defense of the United States. Keeping with its motto, "Fourth but First," the wing is a leader in American airpower. STRATEGIC TRAINING HUB Currently, Seymour Johnson AFB plays host to a monthly large force exercise called RAZOR TALON. This exercise provides a low-cost training opportunity for East Coast tactical and support aviation units from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps. Since its inception, RAZOR TALON has expanded to incorporate international coalition forces to the unique training environment of eastern North Carolina.
