FTCC Tournament Is About More Than Golf by STEPHANIE CRIDER In 1984, Fayetteville Technical Community College Foundation was established to promote the development of Fayetteville Technical Community College and its programs and activities. They support students and the college through tuition scholarships, book funds, professional development and campus improvements. Janet Stone, a student at FTCC, has benefi tted from the funds raised by the foundation. “Being given the opportunity to serve as an Ambassador for FTCC has been a very rewarding experience. I have been able to share some of my life experiences and learn from others,” said Stone. “My dream of graduating with an Associate Degree in Nursing is on the horizon, thanks in part to the scholarship provided by the foundation, my determination and the support of my family. I have had many wonderful instructors who took real pride in what they were teaching and in their students.” Like Stone, Edwin Munoz- Lamos has also benefi tted from the foundation’s fundraising. “I am one of the student Ambassadors at FTCC. I think that FTCC is a great institution that is helping me to build a better future. After FTCC, I plan to continue school in the engineering fi eld,” said Munoz-Lamos. “Being an Ambassador has been a great experience. I met a lot of very important people who inspired me to go as far as I can. The scholarship was a great help to pay for classes and get closer to reaching my goal of graduating from FTCC and moving on to a bigger and brighter future.” In order to continue helping students meet their dreams, the foundation works hard to raise money to provide scholarships. On April 28 the FTCC Foundation is having its annual golf tournament at the Gates Four Golf Course and Country Club. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and there will be a shotgun start at noon. The format is Captain’s Choice, four person team, handicapped by team total points system. The $100 registration fee covers green fees, mulligan, cookout after the tournament, cart rental, prizes, practice balls, boxed lunches and beverages for the golfers. On three of the Par 3 holes prizes will be awarded for a hole in one. The prizes are a $35,000 automobile, seven-day cruise for two, golf clubs and a $500 golf shop credit. Proceeds will benefi t the FTCC Foundation in their endeavor to make FTCC a place where students are successful and fulfi lled. According to its Web site, the foundation staff administers the funds contributed for the scholarship program, under the direction of the FTCC Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors. The FTCC Foundation, Inc. has assets of more than $2.3 million. There are 120 scholarships under the administration from donors who wish to help those who are helping themselves by furthering their education. During the 2008-2009 year, the Foundation awarded $56,817 in scholarships, $2,383 in book fund grants and $6,465 in Emergency Grants, totaling $65,665 in assistance to students.
