Editor’s Corner Ready to party like it’s 2006 E Corrections We would like to correct a few errors from our February/March issue. Brantley Electronic Supply Inc., is the proper name of the business on Bragg Boulevard. The store can be found online at www.brantleyelectronic.com The proper Web site address for Valley Eye Clinic is www.valleyeyesight.com. And the correct address for Applewood Executive Suites is www.applewoodsuites.linkytown.com. We apologize for these errors. very April, the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival packs in the entertainment – plays, art exhibits, music, food, crafts and displays. And even when it’s over, it’s not really over. Thanks to this year’s “encore” events, long after the crowds have left Festival Park, the Fayetteville Wine Society will hold its spring gala, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra closes out another season with a flourish and a two-day Women’s Expo is set for Cross Creek Mall. Recession? What recession? I don’t mean to be flip. Millions of Americans are struggling and have been for awhile; economists now think that the recession may have started as early as 2007. I don’t know about you, but deep into this downturn, I’m ready for Fayetteville’s biggest party. Let’s roll back the clock, at least for a little while, and embrace the best of this city’s food, arts and talent. In this issue, we eat our way through some of the city’s exotic markets. Writer Starr Oldorff takes us on a tour, and you won’t believe what the talented culinary instructors at Fayetteville Technical Community College can do with some of the simple ingredients we found there. We’ve never eaten so much (or so well) as we did at Wolf’s German American Restaurant, a hidden gem next to a hardware store on Hope Mills Road. Owners Armin and Elzbieta Wolf prepared one of everything on the menu for our photo shoot and then waved 10|April/May • 2009 us to one of their wooden tables for an impromptu German feast. Nomee Landis takes us down some back roads to pickin’ parlors where folks from all parts come to play good music. Eddie Dees introduces us to Brian Steverson, soldier by day, artist by night. And there’s so much more, not to mention our complete guide to the 2009 Fayetteville Dogwood Festival. When festival director Carrie King kicked off this year’s events, the lineup of activities filled more than a dozen pages of the media guide. After announcing everything from a new logo to new exhibits, she paused and took a deep breath. King looked out at us writers, editors and photographers and said, “If anybody tells you there’s nothing to do in Fayetteville, they need to find somewhere else to live.” People sometimes tell me that CityView “makes” Fayetteville look good. I’m quick to thank them and also tell them that Fayetteville does that all on its own – it’s up to us to take a closer look. Even in the most challenging of times, it’s an exciting time to be in the city of dogwoods. CV Allison Williams, Editor
