Publisher’s Note The magazine, elections and other storms C ityView continues to grow, thanks to our advertisers and readers. This past issue was our most successful. We print 25,000 magazines each issue and normally, our inventory is depleted right before the next issue. However the August/ September issue was so popular, we ran out before the end of August. The popularity is good but having empty racks in not so good. For this issue, there will be an extra 5,000 magazines out on the stands to help eliminate that problem. Congratulations are due to our art director, Heather Malone-Ferry, for her excellent cover designs and layout. We attribute the success to her designs. Thank you Heather for an excellent job! We’re also excited to offer the entire magazine on our Web site (www. cityviewnc.com) In the past, the site offered only a selection of stories and photos. Now, readers will be able to browse the entire issue, page by page, story by story. A simple click on an advertisement will take you directly to that client’s home site. There’s a lot in store in this issue which is devoted to health and fitness. It also comes out right before the November elections, and I encourage you all to be good citizens and vote. There have been only two seated U.S. senators elected to the office of president. So you don’t have to look it up, they were Warren Harding and John F. Kennedy. We are soon to elect a third – both candidates are current U.S. senators. With a month to 12 | Oct • Nov 2008 go, I am already tired of the negative ads by all candidates, not just for president but especially for North Carolina’s seat in the U.S. Senate. I wish they would just stick to the issues. However, some of the ads are very clever regardless of your political leaning. Our summer intern, Charles Cox, catches up with two young people who have had a say in this historic election. Nick Ochsner and Phillip Gilfus attended the political conventions for their respective parties. We wouldn’t be surprised to see them run for office one of these days. It is election season and the end of another hurricane season. However, we can’t rest easy yet. Some of our worst storms have come in the month of October. The one that I am old enough to remember was Hazel. As I write this, I am headed to a wedding in Dallas, Texas, right in the path of the biggest storm of this current season. I am not so much worried about the safety issue, but I am concerned about catching my flight home on the same day the storm is predicted to hit. Be safe and God’s blessing to all.CV Marshall Waren, Publisher
