Door Prizes! $10 tickets BY SARAH HANEY NWA DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE The Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center welcomed a new director on Jan. 3. Chase Gipson has filled the role and brings along with him a background in community involvement. "I worked for the City of Fayetteville Parks & Rec Department for about 10 years. I was a Recreation Program Manager and then eventually became the Recreation Superintendent," said Gipson. "That's just up the road from here, so I'm pretty familiar with the 'city' side of things as it relates to this position." Following his position as Recreation Superintendent, Gipson was the Director of the YMCA in Rogers for 3 ½ years. "About ¼ of the YMCA population was seniors, so I've worked with the senior community in different capacities," stated Gipson. "Getting to meet all the people here – the staff and the clients – has been enjoyable," noted Gipson. "All the seniors that come in have been real welcoming and personable, so it's been nice to get a chance to sit down, talk to them, and get to know them." Gipson has set goals for his role as director. "I plan to continue to improve on all of the great things that are happening here with input from the seniors to help develop new programs and events that they are interested in having." "I'm excited to be here – I enjoy being a part of the community," added Gipson. "I live in this area, so it's nice to be back in Fayetteville working in the community that I live in." Located at 945 S. College, the Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center is conveniently situated near historic downtown Fayetteville and offers an array of activities to engage the senior citizens of the community. The 12 year-old center boasts a fitness center, billiards room, dining hall and kitchen, exercise/yoga room, art/game room, library, outdoor patio seating area, and garden. There are plenty of activities to keep any visitor engaged and having fun. The center will be hosting a Valentine's Dance on Tuesday, Feb. 13, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and music at 6 p.m. The dance will also feature a potluck meal and the center requests a $5 donation. In addition, the center hosts a dance the second Tuesday of every month. The Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
