The Epilog page 4 Onward Success at Oklahoma Beta Undergraduate Brothers Continue to Prosper T hese are exciting times at Oklahoma Beta. Our chapter is succeeding in nearly every area, and we expect this success to continue for a long time. The renovated basement and first floor are much appreciated by the membership and provide a great environment for chapter activities. ACADEMIC SUCCESS SigEp attained a chapter GPA of 3.2, ranking fifth among fraternities at OU. This fall, we placed a heavy emphasis on academics for new members, with new member educators checking their grades weekly and helping them find resources to succeed in classes. PHILANTHROPIC ENDEAVORS In April, we hosted Coffeehouse philanthropy night with Delta Delta Delta and raised over $10,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This fall, we partnered with Mary's Meals USA, an organization that builds kitchens in schools in third world countries, so that kids will be able to both eat and attend school. We were excited to be able to work with such a great philanthropy. WELCOMING 59 NEW MEMBERS We are pleased to have 59 new members in the class of 2017. Recruitment Chairman Ford Kilborn '17 did a tremendous job all summer long to sign a great class. VP of Member Development Gavin Alexander '17 is overseeing the transition to the Balanced Man Program. We are excited about this program, as it keeps many of the positives of the pledge program, while eliminating the negatives. ON-CAMPUS PARTICIPATION Dillon Smith '17, Blake Berger '17, and Matthew Lepak '17 attended Conclave in Orlando in August. They had a great time meeting with SigEps from other chapters. We were partnered with Delta Gamma for Homecoming this fall, and placed second overall. We were then paired with the ladies of Chi Omega for University Sing, with performances over Dad's Day Weekend. For Sooner Scandals in the spring, we are excited to be partnered with Kappa Alpha Theta. Preston Choi '18 was honored on Homecoming court during the Homecoming game. Preston is a Burr scholar and the chairman of LEAD team. Michael Thomas '17 recently became a member of the prestigious Crimson Club, a selective organization operated by the President's office. Michael is also a Burr scholar and an HSLC counselor, and served as PLC advisor last year. ALUMNI, MARK YOUR CALENDARS An All-Class Reunion will be held February 23-24. This is one of the best events of the year and we hope to have as many alumni in attendance as possible. Mom's Day last spring was a huge success, with a dinner and social gathering at 747 on campus corner, and Dad's Day activities in November were great as well. DOMINATING INTRAMURALS We won the all-sports intramural championship for the 2016-17 school year, placing first and second in football, and winning soccer. This fall, our freshman team, with Carter Patterson '21 at quarterback, defeated Beta Upsilon Chi 41-0 in the residential league championship game to give SigEp a lead in the intramural standings. We expect to have a very strong basketball team this spring, led by Ryan Kinnear '19. We are incredibly grateful for your continued participation in Oklahoma Beta. Our chapter is thriving and we know that success is in part due to the support of the alumni network. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming months to personally express my gratitude. Fraternally, Nicholas Kinnear '18 Outgoing Chapter President nkinnear57@gmail.com (214) 808-0185 Representatives from Mary's Meals USA celebrate at a chapter meeting.
