The pageant was fi rst started in 2010 by Dinice Ross, Cemetery board li- aison to the town. She got informa- tion from other places who had done what they called "spirit walks", where people dressed up in historical cos- tumes and played the parts of some of the past residents of their town. It was a lot of fun, so she decided to do it here, and organized it for several years before her health stopped her from all the work it took to do, and it was not done for a year. Since 2017 was the 150th birthday of Quartzsite, the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce asked Dinice and the Cemetery Board if they could restart the pageant for the birthday celebration. It was approved and the pageant was done last February for the birthday celebration. It was sug- gested that since the season was in 2018 as well, that it would be done again this February, and it is set for the 24th starting at 1 p.m. Many of the people who played characters in the past pageants will not be able to participate in this year's pageant so the Business A Walk in the Past set for Feb. 24 Chamber is looking for several peo- ple who want to do some acting (ev- ery easy) and get dressed up and be- come a part of the pageant this year. It is not known yet if someone else or some other group would like to take over this event in years to come, but for this year at least the Business Chamber will do it again. It's a lot of fun for everyone, and gives people a good idea of what it was like in the 1800s and early 1900s here and who some of the pioneers are who are buried in the cemetery. The pageant will also be helped by the Quartzsite Historical Society, the Hi Jolly Cemetery Board and the Town of Quartzsite. Volunteers are needed for tour guides, set up and break down, etc. So please let the Business Chamber know if you can give some time to help. If you want to be a character in the pageant, or can help in other ways, please call the Business Chamber 927-9321 or drop in to the offi ce at 110 W. Main St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mark your calendars for this wonderful look in to the past of Quartzsite and come have some fun with us!!
