Kuehn Street QUARTZSITE, AZ 928-927-6384 www.TysonWells.com F R E E P A R K I N G By Pamela Caskey I would like to thank all of those that participated in the Fourth An- nual Soup and Chowder Festival. Those who made those wonderful soup's and Chowders. Those who donated raffl e items to be raffl ed off. Those who cooked the yum- my desserts, and those who spent countless hours organizing for the event and helping that day to help things run smoothly. I truly feel each year it gets a little better and runs smoother. I am sure there are some out there who have suggestions on how to improve for the future, and I welcome their ideas or offer of help for next year. The music this year was wonderful. Starting off with the Choir from the L.D.S. Church which added some Christmas Spirit to the day. The Band In Brenda who volunteered at the call for help, they got some folks up and dancing and enjoying the event, and others listening while they sam- pled the soups and chowders. Then the Quartzsite Flute Circle all were a big help to add to the festivities of the Soup and Chowder Festival and Operation Hero Comfort. All being held at the QIA that day. The soups and chowders were judged by a group of 6 judges and one chairman who would break a tie if there was one. The Chairman was Mark Church. 4th Annual Soup & Chowder Festival a success In all there were 13 soups and Chowders that were served. In order of the serving were 1) Sylvia Brown- ing with Creamy Tomato Soup. 2) The Yacht Club with Clam Chowder. 3) The VFW Post #769 with a Turkey Vegetable Soup. 4) Dianna Zamora with a Chicken Noodle and Dump- ling soup. 5) Times Three Restau- rant with Bean and Ham Soup. 6) Pamela Caskey with New England Seafood Chowder. 7) Richard Trusty with Christmas Pepper Pot Soup. 8) Laurie Curran and Aletta Han- na with Two Bean and Minestrone Soup. 9)The Road Runner Rock and Gem Club with Hobo Stew. 10)Mountain Quail Cafe with Clam Chowder. 11) Carole A Johnson with Hearty Vegetarian Soup. 12) Kathi Ball Chicken Chili Lime Soup. 13) Chandra Berger Poppy Soup. This year we also had a Dessert Contest, the judges were a group of volunteers from the Quartzsite Im- provement Assoc. (QIA) and though I do not have all of the names to post on line the One and only winner for the contest was Carole A. Johnson and she was presented with a Gin- gerbread Man Basket. Next year if someone would like to oversee the Desserts section and maybe Get a few more awards it would help things run smoother and also offer some more award winners. The People's Choice for the Soups and Chowders went to Dianna Zamo- ra for her won- derful Chicken Noodle and D u m p l i n g Soup. Awards by the judges were 1st place Pamela Caskey with her New England Seafood Chowder, 2nd place the VFW Post #769 with Turkey Vegetable Soup, and 3rd place was the Mountain Quail Restaurant with Clam Chowder. In all we served around 160 people and with a combination of the meal tickets and the funds taken in for the raffl es we raised $1400 for the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank. We also collected donations for the Forgotten Children Angel tree that was at the QIA and took in donations of canned goods for the Food Bank. I want to thank all those who at- tended and helped in one way or an- other to make this event as special as it has become. What a wonder- ful way to gather together to help a good cause and get in the holiday spirit all in one. I cannot begin to list all the names of the folks who took part in this from the loyal hands who helped at the event, those who donated items for the raffl es, or the desserts. Or the businesses who in one way or anoth- er supported this. So not to offend anyone by not putting their name in there I will leave it at this. You know who you are and others do too. God Bless You All and thank you for helping to support the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank. Also many thanks to the QIA for allowing us to use the building and to the folks from the facility that helped in one way or another. Volunteering is one thing the Town of Quartzsite has a lot of. And God Bless all those that do volunteer and if you have not tried it remember it is far better to give than it is to receive. I encourage all to give it a try.
