3 12.31.2017 SCHOOL: Fayetteville CLASS: Junior HEIGHT: 5-11 WEIGHT: 160 THE SCOOP: Became a two-time winner of the 7A-West Conference and Class 7A state cross country championships … He wasn't able to improve on last year's performance at the Class 7A state meet — mainly because of the warm, humid conditions during this fall's race at Oaklawn Park, but Fischer enjoyed a larger margin of victory this year. His time of 15 minutes, 44.3 seconds was more than 25 seconds faster than the next runner. … Ran a personal- best 15:06 to win the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, defeating his closest competitor again by more than 25 seconds. … Also won the Southern Stampede in September at Joplin, Mo., and the Conway Wampus Cat Invitational in October. … Became the first Arkansas male runner to qualify for the Foot Locker Nationals and ran in that meet earlier this month in San Diego. DID YOU KNOW?: Fischer considers himself a low-key person. He prefers staying at home most of the time and resting when he's not competing in races or training for the next race. HE SAID IT: "Personally, I thought the season went really well. I had a lot of good races. I set a good PR this year at 15:06 and won a lot of big meets — the Chile Pepper, the Missouri Southern Stampede and won state again and qualified for two national meets, which is a big accomplishment for me. I really didn't have a time goal this year, and I'm fine with my times this year. I wasn't sure I was going to make the national meets, and when I did I was super happy. "I would have to say the keys to my success were the little things and having the right mindset, for sure. I was able to put in the right work and work hard at it. The little things were being like eating right and sleeping more and doing those little things that your opponent might not be doing, like stretching more." — Henry Apple • @NWAHenry FaveRates.com *Farm Bureau® Mutual Insurance Co. of Arkansas, Inc. *Southern Farm Bureau® Casualty Insurance Co. *Southern Farm Bureau® Life Insurance Co., Jackson, MS ARAUNP42454 1601 SW A Street • Bentonville, AR 72712 479.273.7786 2125 E Main St, Ste 13 • Siloam Springs, AR 72761 479.524.8400 NEW AUTO RATES.
