13 12.31.2017 SCHOOL: Elkins CLASS: Sophomore HEIGHT: 6-2 WEIGHT: 190 POSITION: Quarterback THE SCOOP: McClain was a dual threat to run or throw for the Elkins at quarterback. … He threw for 2,809 yards and 33 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions and completed 61 percent of his passes (176 of 290) to lead the Elks to a 9-3 finish. … The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder also rushed for 331 yards on 61 carries (5.4 average) and scored six touchdowns. … The 16-year-old earned all-conference and all-state honors. … McClain also played on defense at times, most of time subbing at safety. … He also got some varsity playing time as a freshman near the end of the season and in the playoffs. DID YOU KNOW?: McClain also starts for the Elkins basketball and baseball teams. But in his spare time, he's also an avid hunter and fisherman. He recently killed a nine-point buck, which he plans to mount. HE SAID IT: "You talk about a complete kid, he has all the attributes from the leadership perspective to the talent," Elkins coach Chad Harbison said. "He's a 4.0 student. He's got size and speed. He's 4.7, not a big lumberer. He's our best player and one of our hardest workers. "If you're gonna draw one up and create what you want in a quar- terback, Quinn would be that guy. In the second week of conference, he took off on a 71-yard run out of our end zone. People would have their hands on him and he would drag people down the field. We ran him a lot in the red zone especially later in the season. We had some designed stuff for him. "We had a lot of RPOs where he's got the option to run or throw based on what he sees and he does a good job with that." — Paul Boyd • @NWAPaulb
