Moments Moments ❆ ❆ ❆ Memories Memories FOR SALE ADS WORK! The Pisgah Ranger District has always worked closely with volunteers, and 2016 was no different. Approximately 400 volunteers across the district dedicated over 92,000 hours of volunteer work. This propelled the Pisgah well into the number one spot for volunteer hours across the entire U.S. Forest Service, earning the Volunteer Award at the 2017 Regional Forester's Honor Awards ceremony. Volunteers are woven into the very fabric of the Pisgah and the district is committed to supporting them to the greatest extent possible. Volunteer work on the district includes maintaining hundreds of miles of trails, road maintenance projects, addressing erosion in riparian areas to reduce sedimentation in streams, picking up trash along roads, trails, and streams, treating non-native invasive species, and providing personalized information to visitors on recreation opportunities and conservation education. These many hours of hard work are critical to our mission and motto, "caring for the land and serving people." This year's Regional Forester's Awards theme "Building a Legacy - Commitment to Excellence" acknowledges Forest Service employees, work units, partnerships, and groups who have demonstrated a commitment in restoring, sustaining, and/or enhancing forestlands and natural resources in the Southern Region. The Regional Forester's Honor Awards is an opportunity to recognize groups and individuals who go above and beyond in demonstrating their commitment to excellence and teamwork.
