Crescent Corner A Publication for Alpha Xi Alumnae by Alpha Xi Alumnae | Fall 2017 UPDATES GIVE FRESH LOOK TO THE CHAPTER HOUSE Changes Occur at Chapter House and on the SMU Campus he school year is well underway, and we were excited to welcome the collegians back home to 3030 Daniel Avenue in August. In anticipation of fall semester, the Affiliated House Corporation used the summer to make several improvements to the house. We freshened up the foyer and living room spaces with a new entryway table, chandelier, lamps, and other accessories. Additionally, we purchased commercial-grade washers and dryers for the laundry room, installed new windows in the dining room and several bedrooms, and added a security system, which features camera monitoring at exterior entrances. We also cleaned and organized the storage rooms on the third floor, which will help to maximize the efficiency of our spaces. Any furniture that was removed was donated to Habitat for Humanity. Chapter members were saddened to hear that Chef Allen retired from his position in order to pursue his landscaping business full time, but we continue to have a strong relationship with him as he provides the house with weekly landscaping services. Our new chef, Matthew, has been preparing menus based on feedback from the residents through a new Campus Cooks app, which has been a useful tool. Members have been happy to see more salad bar items as well as vegetarian and healthy dishes. Just as we have been making changes to the chapter house, many other changes are taking place around us on Daniel Avenue. The old Chi Omega chapter house was recently torn down and will be the new space for an on-campus child care center at SMU, and our neighbors at Alpha Chi Omega have removed the trees in their front lawn following a weather incident, which knocked a tree onto the house. There are always new things going on in the chapter house and on campus, and we look forward to continuing to work with the collegiate members to make the in-house experience the best it can be.
