farm after a few weeks. He then spent a semester at Indiana University on a basketball scholarship, again returning home due to homesickness. He was then recruited by Coach Hinkle to play on full scholarship for Butler, closer to home. He let- tered in both basketball and baseball, graduating in 1948. He earned the nickname "Hero" from his team- mates for his penchant for the big play. He was the first in his family to gradu- ate from college and went on to earn a master's degree from In- diana University in 1964. After graduation, while playing for P. R. Mallory & Company summer baseball team, he met his future wife, Dorothy Anne Jose. They were married for 63 years, until her death in 2012. Pete had a long, distinguished career in public education throughout the state of Indiana and showed that he was just as adept at teaching the game and educating young people. He was some- one who got respect because he deserved it, trust because he earned it, and love because of all he was. He is survived by his four children. Eugene Edwards Krebs '51 entered Chapter Grand on June 22 at the age of 87. Eugene was born on November 16, 1929. He received his degree in account- ing from Butler. After gradua- tion, he worked for Ford Motor Company as an accountant for 31 years until his retirement. After retirement, he continued to work making deliveries for a business in the commu- nity. He enjoyed watching college basketball, was a big supporter of Butler University, and a proud member of Phi Delta Theta. He also enjoyed trav- eling, fishing, reading, and working on old auto- mobiles. Eugene is survived by his two sons, two step-daughters, step-son, granddaughter, three great-grandchildren, and his companion, Shirley Higginbotham. Anthony Wayne "Tony" Hopkins '55 entered Chap- ter Grand on August 31 at the age of 84. Tony was born June 1933. He attended the Uni- versity of Missouri and Butler University. He played bas- ketball under Coach Hinkle. After Butler, Tony was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Epperson based in Pearl Harbor, Ha- waii. Fulfilling his military service, he returned to Indianapolis, where he was active in various business enterprises for many years before retir- ing to Arizona. He is survived by his children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Richard A. Sink '56 entered Chapter Grand on December 31, 2016. Dick was born in Flora, Ind., and attended But- ler University, where he played basketball for Tony Hinkle graduated cum laude with a degree in business in 1956. From 1956-59, he was a pilot in the United States Air Force. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve until 1967 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. He went on to a successful career as a chartered financial analyst and investment officer for three Indianapolis-area insurance companies, retiring in 1998. Dick is survived by the love of his life, Joyce Cripe, along with their two sons and six grand- children. He loved his family, church, Butler basketball, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. The world was a place for Dick to strike up a conversation and often make friends with anyone he encountered. He had a quick sense of humor and a joke ready at any time. His engaging personality and humor will be deeply missed by his family and many of those fortunate enough to have known him. Thomas C. Farnam '66 en- tered Chapter Grand on May 6 at home, in Alexandria, Va., fol- lowing a lengthy battle with pan- creatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Naomi M. Morales, his daughter, son, and stepson; three grandchildren; and many close family and friends. Born and raised in Noblesville, Ind., Tom spent the majority of his adult life in St. Louis, Mo., and Alexandria, Va. Tom attended Butler Univer- sity, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in business; he also made it back to the 2016 Phi Delta Theta Home- coming event as part of his bucket list to pay forward his Fraternity pin to deserving undergraduate mem- ber, Jordan Knotts '17. Tom went on to attend Indiana University and Georgetown University, pursuing his passion for law with a J.D. and master's of law in tax. Tom was admitted to practice law in Missouri, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court. Tom was for many years ac- tively involved in Washington, D.C.-area Porsche 356 owners group. He also had a passion for the scouting movement and served a number of years in leader- ship capacities with Boy Scout Troops in Clayton, Mo. Active to the very end of his life, Tom found enjoyment in race-walking and biking events of many distances. With Naomi by his side, Tom participated in innumerable races, traveling across the United States and abroad, often in support of the charitable efforts of Team-In-Training. Michael C. Farinas '87 en- tered Chapter Grand on August 26. Mike was born in Chicago, Ill. He and his two younger brothers, Ed and Mark, grew up in Munster, Ind. Mike at- tended Butler University where he received his degree in busi- ness management and finance and was known as "Ninja" to his Phi Delta Theta brothers. In 1997, Mike met the love of his live, Kathleen Musgrave Farinas. They married in Jamaica on November 16, 2004. Their life together was full of love, ad- venture, travel, family, friends, and their beloved dog, Bandit. Those who know him know Mike lived life to the fullest and touched the hearts of everyone he knew, and even those he didn't know. Mike was a lifelong Cubs fan and attended Game 5 of the 2016 World Series, which is one of the highlights of his life. His love for the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Butler, fishing, auto, and motorcy- cle racing led to many adventures for Mike and Kathy. His flag pole became a reference point for the neighborhood of a teams' success. Mike worked for over 20 years for the Hertz Corpora- tion, but more recently was the director of market- ing for the George & Farinas law firm. He was loved and respected by all of his co-workers, es- pecially his wife. Mike was a member of the Butler Alumni Asso- ciation, American Association for Justice, St. Mi- chaels Church, and Harley Owners Group. He is survived by his mother, wife, brothers, nephews and niece, godchildren, many cousins, and Bandit. Page 1 1 Φ Δ Θ
