one of the biggest holiday stresses – overspending.
1. Create a spending plan. Once you have a realistic idea of how much you can afford to spend on all holiday purchases
(being sure to include gifts, food, entertainment, and travel expenses), set a limit and stick to it.
2. Know your limits. Make a list of everyone you intend to buy for and
decide how much of your budget will be allocated to each
recipient. If your list is too long, consider reducing it by gifting homemade treats and goodies.
3. Track your spending. Ensure you stay within your budget by tracking every dollar spent on holiday clothing, cards, wrapping
paper, decorations, gifts, etc.
4. Shop with a list. Avoid impulse purchases by shopping with a list. Once you've purchased everything on your list, stop shopping.
5. Shop early. Give yourself time to compare prices and find the best deals – now is a great time to start scouring catalogs,
advertisements and online prices.
6. Cash in on reward points. The holidays are a great time to redeem any credit or debit card reward points you may have
accrued throughout the year. Depending on your reward program, you may be able to redeem your points for cash, gift cards
or merchandise.
7. Cost-effective credit cards. Select a credit card with low rates and no fees to ensure your holiday shopping expenses stay low.
