3 T he 2017 Lotterhos Service Award was presented to William Griffin '77 of Jackson, Mississippi. The award is given to those who provide outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to the M-Club Alumni Chapter and the University of Mississippi. William lettered in baseball in 1976 and 1977 and football in 1976. He received his bachelor's degree from Ole Miss in 1977. William served as president of the M-Club Alumni Chapter from 1994- 1996 and has served many roles on the board since that time. He has also served on various university committees and boards. The M-Club and the University have benefited tremendously from William's selflessness over the years. He continues to go above and beyond the call of duty and is always one of the first to volunteer time and resources to any project that needs assistance. William was instrumental in the formation of the Wobble Davidson Scholarship Fund, the Grove Bowl inception, the M-Club Summer Weekend, and two $1 million donations to the Athletics Foundation. In addition to his service with the M-Club, William has been very involved in his hometown of Jackson (where he has served as color analyst for Jackson Prep Sports broadcasts for 14 years) and his childhood home of Gloster, Mississippi (where he and his brother/business partner, John Andrew, continue to develop oil and gas resources). William is president of Griffin and Griffin Exploration in Jackson, is married to the former Amanda Honeycutt, and they have three children (Kennedy, Amanda Leigh, and Kelsey—all of whom attended Ole Miss) and three grandchildren (Will, Reid, and Peyton). His sisters, Anna Callender and Mary Jean Lobrano, attended Ole Miss as well. 2017 Lotterhos Service Award Recipient William Griffin '77 CHAPTER ETERNAL John Napier III '49 entered the Chapter Eternal on December 27, 2016. He was a remarkable man and he loved being a Sigma Chi. He is survived by his wife of 52 years and several cousins. He was a soldier, who lived and loved well, laughed a lot and contributed to the good of mankind. Bill Stevenson Jr. '56 entered the Chapter Eternal in May 2016. He resided in Jackson, Miss., with his wife, Mildred. Eddie Crawford '57, the school's last three-sport letterman, entered the Chapter Eternal in July at the age of 82 following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. At Ole Miss, he starred in football, basketball, and baseball from 1954-56 and was starting halfback for the 1954 and 1956 SEC championship teams and an All- SEC center fielder in 1956. He played one season of professional football for the New York Giants before returning to Ole Miss in 1962 to begin what would be more than 50 years of service to the school. During that time Eddie served as the interim athletic director, senior associate athletic director, associate athletic director for development, director of the Loyalty Foundation (now the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation), head men's basketball coach, football assistant, and most recently worked part time as a special assistant to the A.D. after retiring in 2005. He was inducted into the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. Eddie was also an inducted member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame (2012), the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (1996) and the Jackson-Madison County (Tennessee) Hall of Fame (1986). Landman "Landy" Teller Jr. '63 entered the Chapter Eternal on April 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Landy touched countless people with his stable presence and kind heart, and he will be deeply missed and gratefully remembered by all who had the good fortune of knowing and sharing life with him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Peggy; two sons, L. Todd '90 and Blake, and a daughter, Lindy; 14 grandchildren; a sister and brother, Barry Teller '67. ALUMNI UPDATE Hubert Barnett '39 lives at Asbury Place, a retirement village in Maryville, Tenn. Since leaving Mississippi, he has lived throughout the United States and Canada. "I have made many Sigma Chi friends along the way. I am now 100 years old, in good health and staying busy. I am still a loyal Sig." Sebastian Moore '50 practiced law in Jackson, Miss., for 46 years "with mixed success." He lives in Madison, Miss., and has two children, Thomas and Nathan, and two grandchildren. Gene Scobey '50 celebrated his 90th birthday last January, and his 64th wedding anniversary with Mary Frances in June. The couple lives in Cordova, Tenn. E-mail: john.landmcdavid@yahoo.com Jim Ewing '56 retired in 1999 from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga., as a professor of English. Throughout his 40- year career in education, his most lasting and memorable achievement was the founding of Theta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi. Chartered and installed in May 1982, Theta Epsilon has initiated about 800 brothers, has won 10 Peterson Awards, and has established itself at UNG as the dominant Greek organization campus-wide. Jim shares, "My personal greatest SC honors were receiving the Erwin L. LeClerg Chapter Advisor Award in 1992 and being inducted into the Order of Constantine in 1994." Jim and his wife, Ellen, have been married for 54 years and have three married adult children and seven grandchildren. E-mail: jimewing34@gmail.com Dr. Fred Trexler Jr. '58 is a Baptist minister in Lakeland, Tenn. He has been in ministry for 60 years and plans to attend the 160th anniversary celebration. He celebrated his 81st birthday on October 10. He has authored two books, Jesus: His Miracles and The Night Before Christ. Fred and his wife, Charllene, have two children, Tamara and Stephen. E-mail: mcass11@wb4me.com Fred Bell Jr. '65 retired from the automobile business in 2008. Since then, he's been enjoying Ole Miss football, Bellview Farm, and his granddaughter, Rachel. Fred and his wife, Judi, live in Kosciusko, Miss. David Houston III '66 was inducted into the Ole Miss Alumni Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Ole Miss Law School Hall of Fame in 2017. He lives in Aberdeen, Miss., with his wife, Deborah, and has four children. He and his wife, Michelle, travel a good bit and Web does some travel writing.
