"Dutch" (1991) A construction worker (Ed O'Neill) fights with his girlfriend's (JoBeth Williams) spoiled preteen son (Ethan Embry) as he brings the boy home from private school for the holiday in this underrated comedy. "Scent of a Woman" (1992) Hoo-Aah! Al Pacino won a well-deserved Oscar for his portrayal of a blind, difficult Army retiree who gets an unwelcome companion when his family hires an unsuspecting preppie (Chris O'Donnell) to look after him while they are away during Thanksgiving weekend in Martin Brest's excellent drama. "The Ice Storm" (1997) It's 1973 and residents of an affluent Connecticut suburb are experimenting with mate swapping during a boozy, ice-bound holiday party in Ang Lee's outstanding drama. Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Allison Janney are in the large and talented cast. "The New World" (2005) The story of the Jamestown settlers is told with sweeping landscapes, swelling instrumentals and fine performances by Colin Farrell and newcomer Q'orianka Kilcher in Terrence Malick's sumptuous historical drama.
