In honor of the late com- munity leader and council member Carol Kelley, the food bank building will now be known Carol's Cupboard. In attendance were La Paz County Supervisors Holly Irwin and Duce Minor, Sheriff Bill Risen, Quartzsite Mayor Norm Simpson, Vice Mayor Loretta Warner, Council Members Starr BearCat and Steve Schue, FQFB Board Members Lois Dupre, Rich- ard Trusty, Maggie and Gene Ross, New Food Bank Director Jason Moore who Kelley trained for the position and volunteers overwhelmingly sup- port, plus friends and supporters of Carol and the Food Bank. Many sported freshly dyed blue hair in honor of Kelley, who loved dying her hair bright blue, to "stir the pot" with fellow council members and folks she considered "just too darn serious. You gotta have fun!" she said. La Paz County Supervisors approved the new name of the pantry dur- ing their regular meeting of October 16. The food bank serves upwards of 500 people during the busy winter season was Carol's special project. She fought for services for the hungry for many years before her death on March 13, 2017. The Friends Of The Quartzsite Food Bank (FQFB) was started in 2015 because organizers saw a need to help supplement the items received by the local Quartzsite Food Bank county program. In 2017 there was a need for the county to turn it over to a non-profi t and so FQFB is now operating as administrator for the Food Bank. FQFB is a 501c3 non-profi t organiza- tion. All the money we raise is used to help the Quartzsite Food Bank. The board members do not receive any salary. The Quartzsite Food Bank serves a community of many seniors, young families with children who live below the poverty level. Disabled adults are also among those that we help provide food for. Individuals need more than just canned and packaged food. They need healthy protein and vitamins only obtained by providing fresh items. The Quartzsite Food Bank also serves the towns of Cibola, Ehrenberg and Bouse. In the winter months our population explodes with the snowbirds coming here. Most do not use the food bank's services but there are many that do which puts an extra need on the FQFB. For more information visit www.QuartzsiteFoodBank.com
