"I realized I didn't want to sit on the bench another two years," Bailey said. "I wanted to be part of winning and be- ing a great team. I want- ed him to work with me so I could work on my shooting and be confi- dent enough to play on the varsity team. "I improved my game a lot. I knew the only way I could improve was repetitions — doing the same drills and shooting a lot. I prob- ably improved the most at being phys- ical and being assertive on offense." Mann wasn't the only one impressed with Bailey's improvement. Her play convinced John Brown enough to give her an offer, and she signed her letter of intent in September — two months b e fo re h e r s e n i o r s e a s o n wo u l d start. Bailey's parents, however, saw that power of persuasion well in advance. Bailey was 13 when she begged her parents to add another member to her family, and that's when her youngest brother, Jackson, was adopted. "It was at that time when I realized the magnitude of how blessed I was in being part of a great family," Bailey said. "There are a bunch of kids in this area that don't have a great home. So I begged my parents to please open our home again. "I met Jackson, and he lived in a shelter in Northwest Arkansas with a bunch of other kids. We adopted him, and on his fourth birthday, he officially became a member of our family last year." Henry Apple can be reached at happle@ nwadg.com or on Twitter @NWAHenry. PEA RIDGE — Kobe Rose knew his role last season was simply that — a role player. This year, he's a role player of a dif- ferent kind. As a senior returning starter for Class 4A state runner-up Pea Ridge, he now slides into a starring role. "Kobe was last year, what I considered to be one of the best 3-point shooters around," said Pea Ridge boys basketball coach Trent Loyd. "He was consistent all year, like 45-50 percent on threes. He did it a lot in the state tournament, knocking down big shots. "But now he's become a complete player. This year, you're not going to see him just sit in the corner and let Joey Hall or one of those players go make a play for him. Now you're going to see a guy going off 24 hr.
