KAPPA DELTA PAGE 3 OUR NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES W hile the Kappa Delta experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. The current house was built in 1949, with the addition completed in 1972. Our home at 1210 13th Avenue North has been a part of Sigma Psi's legacy for 68 years and is showing its age. It has become clear we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and inspire women to reach their full potential. KEEPING OUR SISTERS SAFE (Physical and safety needs) The safety of our Kappa Delta collegiate members is of utmost importance to the Sigma Psi House Corporation; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our collegians. Much like our personal homes, our chapter house must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. The current house is not compliant with city codes. The fire and sprinkler system is not consistent throughout the entire house. The fire systems in the original house do not speak to the fire systems that are in the addition that was added in the late 1970s. The house is under a grandfather status, but soon will lose that and will no longer be compliant for women to live in. PURSUING EXCELLENCE (Academic and technology needs) North Dakota State University is as academically challenging as ever and the need for an enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years, as devices not present during your college years are now necessities, including personal computers, high-speed internet access, email, and more. Our plan will ensure that Sigma Psi excels academically and remains scholastic leaders on campus and within the Greek system. SETTING OURSELVES APART (Competition) While Sigma Psi continues to attract some of the top women, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other sororities that offer better facilities. We must also compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. There are three other sororities on the North Dakota State University campus. Alpha Gamma Delta has a newly built chapter house. Kappa Alpha Theta has recently renovated the entire interior of their chapter house. Delta Delta Delta is new to the North Dakota State campus and is in the process of purchasing and building a chapter house. We can no longer meet the needs of our members; our chapter house is more than 68 years old and needs to be updated to ensure the Sigma Psi Chapter is offering a first-class facility to our collegiate sisters.
