Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity at Ohio Northern University - Fall 2017 delta-sig.org If you were unable to make it to Homecoming this fall, you missed out on a memorable time. e Alumni Control Board (ACB) and active brothers welcomed back many alumni and their families in celebration. e day started off with our second annual bowling tournament, where four teams created thunder at Norada Lanes. ere was some great competition, but there was only one team that could be awarded first place and receive the medallion. e wining team consisted of brothers Ben Sanders '11, Ryan Schwallie '00, Stephen McCall '89, and Patrick Maginnity '07. e afternoon continued with our ACB Homecoming: State of the Fra- ternity, led by Chapter President Christian Kirchner '15. We celebrated the lives of the brothers we have lost throughout the year with our Bond Eternal Ceremony. is year included an emotional dedication of a new flag pole on behalf our fallen brother, Loren Schoenberger '39. In attendance for the dedication was his daughter Jill. Brother Dan Reid '79 spoke in remembrance of Loren and presented a shadow box to the Chapter with some of his personal belongs to have on display in our Alpha Eta home. is dedication to Loren is to remind all of us, alumni, actives, and future brothers, of the better men that we should strive to become every day. All guests enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by Harlan's Chicken and no one left hungry. e evening concluded with many winners from our raffle of yard games, such as corn hole boards, bocce ball, ladder golf, and many other prizes. As a final dedication, we awarded our Loren Schenberger Alumni of the Year award to George Dupey '78. As presenter Bill Hoyt '91 said, "George has given so much of his time to the Chapter, and through some of the toughest times he was not afraid to say 'no' when it came to overspending." Times for the fraternity are much better now, and that is in large part to the time and work George Dupey has given back to the fraternity. We thank everyone who donated their time, money, and resources into put- ting on Homecoming this year, and I know everyone is already looking forward to doing it again next year. Josh Pettay '16, Christian Kirchner '15, Ian Klever '16, and Elijah Miller '16 attended convention over the summer in Baltimore, Maryland. Stories from Convention 2017 My brothers, Christian Kirchner '15, Ian Klever '16, Josh Pettay '16, and I went to Baltimore, Mary- land this summer to the Delta Sig- ma Phi Fraternity Convention. We attended many sessions in which we learned more and more about the history of our fraternity and about our fellow brothers and chapters who show excellence every day. We attended the opening ceremony and completed the Pilgrim Degree on the first night. For the next couple of days, we attended sessions learning not only the history of our rituals, but also the revisions that have been made, such as removing blindfolds during ritual and not performing ritual in a room with locked doors. We attended the philanthropy lunch where we talked to other chapters about some of their philanthropy ideas, while chapters were receiving awards for their successful philanthropic events. We attended dinners and awards banquets while meeting with brothers from across the nation. We also had plenty of free time to explore the city of Baltimore. It was a great experience with the Alpha Eta brothers and the brothers outside of our own Chapter. I would recommend every Delta Sigma Phi member to go to convention at least once in their life. YITBOS, Elijah Miller '16 - Secretary
