As president, CEO and chairman, Don has helped uphold the bank's pledge to treat customers with respect, help Central Texas communities flourish and maintain a sound and profitable company. "I worked my way through Texas to get to where I am today," Don said. "But the highlight of my career would be serving as the chairman of the Texas Bankers Association in 2006." Throughout his undergraduate years at U.T., Don was able to develop his networking skills throughout his membership in Phi Kappa Psi. As an accounting major, and thanks to his Texas Alpha brothers, he realized that no matter what degree someone was pursuing, knowing sales was important. "Regardless of your degree, you need to have a good foundation in business and accounting," he advises current undergraduates. "It doesn't matter what industry you're in—you have to sell, sell, sell." As an alumnus, Don has stayed in touch with a number of Phi Psi brothers and often enjoys hunting trips and happy hours with them. When Texas Alpha announced the Texas Alpha to the Top campaign, Don felt personally obligated to give back to his chapter. To alumni who have yet to donate, Don is convinced a tour of the chapter house would motivate them to give back. "The new chapter house will have a positive effect on the future of Texas Alpha," he said. "I'm sure they're going to have a record number of pledges and will be able to recruit a broader base of membership." Don and his wife, Jan, have two daughters and five grandchildren. In his free time, Don enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He can be reached at donaldg@fsbcentex.com.
