"All Pikes carry our pride very high," Richard said. "We were and still are the best fraternity on campus in sports, school officers, and leadership." He chose to donate to the Legendary Past, Ensuring Our Future campaign to not only exemplify this pride but to reinforce a strong legacy of achievement for future generations. e summer of 1966 marked Richard's first milestone in his college journey aer he traveled from his home state of Florida to Starkville, Mississippi. "I didn't know many people when I came to campus, but because my brother preceded me, I was strongly influenced by him and his Pike friends." Aer accepting a bid from Gamma eta, Richard confidently forged his own path with the help of his Pike brothers. His brothers taught him how to interact with people from different backgrounds and how to achieve his goal of attending law school. Richard advises undergraduates to diligently pursue their own ambitions and to help one another achieve them. "Set your goals aer graduation and work for them, but, at the same time, enjoy your time in school and as a brother." As an alumnus, Richard remains active with Gamma eta by attending the annual January reunion. He highly encourages all alumni to seek opportunities to deepen their connection with Gamma eta. "ink back to your days at Mississippi State University in the Catherine Craig Claiborne House and what it means to you. Ultimately, the most important takeaways are the friendships I made 50 years ago." Richard recently retired to South Carolina aer his 30-year career as a county attorney and assisting a small specialty company that helps create community development districts. He enjoys following college football and basketball and hearing from his Pike brothers. Richard can be reached at bigebully@aol.com.
