Our Need for Action Our House Our home at 923 W. University Avenue has gone through many changes over the decades in order to meet the needs of each era. Now, we must look at our housing options for the second century of Alpha Eta. We have worked diligently over the last few years to develop a plan for a new home that will be able to match the caliber of our members today. A new chapter house will serve the immediate needs of our undergraduates and provide a first-class facility for future generations of Alpha Eta brothers. It will also help Lambda Chi stay competitive with other fraternities at Okla- homa State. Our Future Recently, the Alpha Eta alumni leadership has been assessing our future at Oklahoma State. e needs and desires of today's under- graduates were reviewed, as well as renovations that other Okla- homa State fraternities have completed to upgrade their chapter facilities and management. It has become clear that we must make a major investment in our chapter if we are to provide a beneficial educational experience and an up-to-date facility that will serve young college men well into our second century. Student Safety We are committed to providing a safe home for our undergraduate brothers. To ensure the safety of our members and to meet hous- ing codes, the new chapter house will have facility-wide protection equipment and modern utilities. Creating a safe environment for our brothers in the house and their guests must be a top priority. Investing in Alpha Eta Zeta Today, students and their parents expect more for their housing dollars. e number of apartment complexes in the Stillwater area increases each year, offering more space and privacy and pulling our undergraduates away from the chapter house. While we have no intention of providing all of the amenities that some apart- ments offer, we must offer a safe and attractive facility in order to be competitive. e need for quiet, well-lit, and comfortable personal and group space within the chapter house is necessary for our members to compete academically, and our plans reflect these needs. Our Goals Ensuring the immediate and future success of our members and assisting the chapter in recruiting and retaining quality men are certainly top goals of the alumni leadership. If we are to achieve these goals, some issues must be addressed. We must set the standard for fraternity housing. An emerging trend across the fraternity landscape is the renovation of existing structures or completely new construction. A number of fraterni- ties at Oklahoma State University have responded to the compe- tition by investing millions of dollars upgrading their facilities— AGR, FarmHouse, FIJI, Sigma Chi, SigEp, Beta, and Pike, just to name a few. We must continue our role as a complement to a well-rounded education. Lambda Chi Alpha taught us things we could not learn in the classroom. e lessons of leadership, character, and person- al responsibility are only the beginning of a very long list of traits enhanced by the fraternity experience. If we expect future gener- ations to carry on our historical success, we can settle for nothing less than the finest facility and resources.
