T he decision David Walton '79 made to join Alpha Nu was spurred by his best friend, Kesley Aydam '79. Already a member, Kesley urged him to get involved, along with recruitment captains at the time, Brad Brown '77 and Tim Jarvis '78. Within a short amount of time, David knew this was where he was meant to be. "And I have never regretted—even for one moment— that decision," he shared. David earned a BBA from the University of Houston and a J.D. from South Texas College of Law. Since then, he has had a successful career as a salesman for seismic data in the cage fighting world. David owes much of his career to the life and social skills developed through Alpha Nu. He explained, "I took the harder path to education than some, so it was my life skills that I learned at 2701 Nueces that lifted me beyond my own shortcomings." David realizes that he would not be where he is today without the lessons and skills learned through the Fraternity, as well as through his brothers and alumni. Giving back to the Chapter was not even a question for David, especially when he thought about all that he had gotten from the experience. "What I took from Alpha Nu cannot truly be repaid," David shared. He was able to take all of the memories and good times, all of the lessons learned, and most importantly, the feeling of true brotherhood, into his adult life. The bond that he and his brothers all shared has never left, and David feels a great responsibility to give back to the place that has been life-changing for him. Now retired, David enjoys relaxing and staying in touch with his brothers. They hold monthly luncheons in Houston and try to get together through Fight Night. He has three adult children, two of whom were Kappa Alphas at the University of Texas, and a daughter, a Kappa Delta at Texas A&M. Becoming a member of Sigma Chi is a lifetime commitment, and David urges his brothers to reconnect and stay in touch. The Fraternity has given David something he will forever treasure, adding, "I was not good to Alpha Nu; Alpha Nu was good to me." You can connect with David at david.walton729@gmail.com.
