Central Quartzsite Open Mon-Fri 8-5 928-927-8787 Johnny DelPino, Owner BEST AUTO RV & TRUCK REPAIR SERVICE YOU CAN DEPEND ON! On Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Quartzsite Police Department (QPD) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 14th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Please bring in all of your unwanted and expired prescription medica- tions for proper disposal. Personal information will not be gathered and you will remain anonymous. Please remove all pills from prescription containers and put into plastic baggies. For safety reasons, needles, liq- uids and powders should remain in their original containers. Proper disposal of prescription medications at the Quartzsite Police Depart- ment ensures that these medications do not get flushed into and contaminate the water systems or sit in a landfill. Most importantly, it helps keep children, teens, and adults from accessing them and abusing them. Last April, Americans turned in 900,386 pounds (450 tons) at close to 5,500 sites across the nation. Marking the 13th National Prescription Take Back Day since September 2010, these events have altogether col- lected 8,103,363 pounds (4,052 tons) of prescription drugs. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Initiative addresses a cru- cial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescrip- tion drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA's Take Back Day events provide an opportu- nity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. In the more than two years since new regulations made the disposal of controlled prescription drugs easier for patients and their caregivers, law enforcement agencies, pharmacies, hospitals and clinics have begun continuous collection of these medications. The Quartzsite Police Department accepts prescription medications any day/time during normal business hours. For more information please call QPD at 928-927-4644.
