Bouda '68 LOYAL ALUMNI, WE THANK YOU W e wish to thank all those who have supported the annual campaign and Kansas DU during our rebuilding throughout the past year. Alumni who contributed thus far in 2017 are listed by graduation year under their lifetime giving levels. A complete list of lifetime annual giving can be found on the website at www.kansasdu.com. If an error has been made in recording your gift, or your name has been mistakenly omitted or listed improperly, we sincerely apologize. Please send corrections to the Kansas Chapter of Delta Upsilon, P.O. Box 1611, Lawrence, KS 66044. Thank you, again, for giving back to the Chapter—it truly does make a difference! Third, we have a good group of juniors and sophomores who are determined to change the narrative and be a more accurate representation of the DU legacy. Jeff and I have been working closely with them, along with DU International and Kandyce, to ensure they have the tools to build a positive, constructive culture. Yet challenges remain. The future will depend on the best and the brightest of our college students understanding that the house must be alcohol and drug free and devoid of hazing. But it's more than just that. At the University of Kansas, student members of the community are expected to uphold and abide by certain standards of conduct that form the basis of the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. These standards are embodied by a set of core values that include respect, community, integrity, and responsibility. And then you have the unique principles represented by DU, a Chapter founded on the promotion of friendship, the exertion of moral influence, the diffusion of liberal culture, and the advancement of equity in college affairs. All that, plus a nonsecret fraternity. So if right now you are asking, "What can I do?" I suggest three things: 1. We need more alumni leaders to get involved. We need leaders to assist in interacting with the Chapter and giving more oversight. We will be investing more time in cultivating the involvement of potential advisors in the Lawrence/KC/Manhattan areas. Jeff and I will remain on the point, but we can always use the help of others. Contact me at mattkeenan51@gmail.com. 2. We are on the hunt for high school seniors who are smart, dedicated and hardworking. We have a great recruitment chairman, Jack Walton '20, a Blue Valley West graduate who has his act together. If you know someone who has at least a 3.2 GPA with an ACT of 28 or higher, please send us an e-mail at rush@kansasdu.com and we will get him in the queue. 3. Support the DU Foundation, of course. Contact Grant Kaufman '92 at grantkaufman@gmail.com. Our brother Lou Holtz, Kent State '58, said these words, which seem spot-on in these crazy times: "Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you respond to it. It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it." We welcome your guidance, insight, and contributions, however measured.
