40 NORTH BAY WOMAN | F A L L 2 0 1 7 By Sarah Stierch celebratory cocktail is a must have to kick off holiday fes- tivities. What is better than a holiday cocktail created with locally handcrafted whiskey, sloe gin or vodka? Luckily for the North Bay we have not only an abun- dance of wineries and breweries, but also a growing selection of craft distilleries, making it easy to "go local" for holiday — and everyday — cocktails. We sought this season's holiday cocktail inspiration from three distilleries in Sonoma and Napa counties, where entrepreneurial couples work together to create thoughtfully crafted spirits. And it wasn't just the cocktails we found inspiring (and delicious!) — we found inspiration in the women behind the spirits and how they balance work, life and family to run these successful businesses. Spirits are alive for the holidays (counter clockwise from top right): Ashby and Timo Marshall of Spirit Works Distillery of Sebastopol; a Manhattan; Lusine and Arthur Hartunian of Napa Valley Distillery; take a tour and see barrels of Napa Valley Port that have been aging since June of 2016. – Photos courtesy of Spirit Works Distillery and Napa Valley Distillery A
