Aunt Bunny's Wine Jellies
Aunt Bunny, aka Bunny Powers,
first discovered wine jellies when she
took some Girl Scouts to Australia in
1999. She came across a port wine jelly
in a country store in a small town "in
the middle of nowhere" and loved it.
Knowing she wouldn't be ordering
more of the jellies all the way from
Australia, she decided to create her
own, using North Carolina wines. For
years, Aunt Bunny gave the wine jellies
as gis but, in 2009, she began selling
them to support a Special Olympics
fundraiser and her success has grown
from there.
Aunt Bunny, a Fayetteville-based
company, has over 31 flavors, all
available on its website (abwinejelly.
com). Certain select flavors can be
found at A Bit of Carolina in downtown
Fayetteville or at Cape Fear Vineyard
and Winery in Elizabethtown. Her
cookbook, "Eat, Drink & Have Jelly,"
contains 140 unique recipes for
using wine jellies, including ideas
for mixing the jellies with barbecue
sauce, brownie recipes and more.
