GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS News Fall 2017 Sigma House Corporation Prepares for Future Projects Summer Flooding Causes Unexpected Updates T he summer brought many unexpected projects to Sigma Chapter. Our plans changed when a deluge of water filled the basement during heavy rain. Our allocated monies for the replacement of the hardwood floors in the formal living room, trophy room, and front hall, including the structural repair in the hallway, quickly needed to be spent on the foun- dation repair to fix the water issue. The August flooding will require more extensive foundation repair to the original 1920s structure. The chapter asked the board to update the old TV room by the dining room in time for fall recruitment. The 1950s ceiling and lighting needed to be replaced, the furniture and area rugs were very tired, and the walls and woodwork needed a new, fresh color. We hired an interior designer who presented a plan to the chapter and the board, which we loved. Our wonderful Moms Club donated $9,100 to the project! The new room is beautiful; the French doors and new windows shed much light on the blue and white color palate. New KU art, along with the composites and the Ellsworth tapestry, adorn the walls. Our long-range plan to replace every window in the chapter house was completed this summer. Now, we must have bids on the replacement of the entire roof as leaks are prevalent. The board continues to be very grateful for your monetary gifts each year. The challenges are many and costly. We are all proud of 1339 W. Campus as we welcome a new class each year and hope you will visit soon. In IIKE, Sigma Chapter House Corporation Moms Club donated $9,100 to help fund the TV room renovation this summer.
