THE FORGET-ME-NOT DELTA CHAPTER OF ALPHA PHI | FALL 2017 Welcome Home, Sisters! New Furnishings and Fixtures Revamp Delta House D ear sisters, as we begin the 2017-18 academic year at Delta Chapter, I want to take a moment to update you on all of the improvements we have made over the summer. For those of you who joined us during the reunion, you were the first to see our new dining room tables. You also saw empty bedrooms, hardwood floors in need of attention, and rusty kitchen cabinets. Once all our sisters returned home, work commenced at 411 Thurston Avenue. All of the wood floors on the second floor have been refinished. The results are stunning, especially in the oldest sections of house. On July 25th, our new bedroom furniture arrived. As is tradition in Ithaca, the weather was a challenge. The installation team worked between rain showers to unload 312 pieces of furniture. After eight hours, the furniture was assembled and each bedroom was set with new beds, dressers, desks, and chairs. The mat- tresses, featuring covers that are anti-everything, sit atop frames that allow the dressers to fit under the beds. This increases the floor space, making a tremen- dous improvement in our smaller bedrooms. The new desks have a large surface area and cushioned chairs that recline. I personally tried them out and am very jealous that they were not in the house when I lived there. In addition to these major projects, the normal cleaning, and minor fixes, we gave the kitchen a deep clean and a much needed coat of paint. The whole first floor has been changed over to LED lights and dimmers have been added. Since candles are no longer permitted, we wanted a way to create mood lighting for ceremonies like Preference and Court of Ivy. We also had lights added to the new wing bathroom over the toilets. It was a busy yet productive summer for Delta Chapter's home. We are excited to welcome back our collegiate sisters and hope that they are as pleased as we are with the results. On behalf of the House Corporation Board of Directors, I invite you to visit during an upcoming event and see for yourselves. Delta Chapter is alive and well on the Hill. aoe, Katie Diemert-Carlisle '01 HCB President For photos and more news, visit www.cornellalphaphi.org.
