Visit www.fspac.org to contribute and attend. T o say that lobbying day was a transformational experience for me is an understatement. As 100 students spent their days sharing experiences, preparing presentations, and meeting with members of Congress and their staff, we advocated not only for our individual organizations, but as part of a larger, united Greek community. We focused on issues affecting each of our individual fraternities and sororities every day, from the passage of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act to maintaining our right to the freedom of association, including in our single-sex organizations. I had the pleasure of meeting with Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Chairman of the House Education and Workfore Committee, as a representative for the student lobbyists. As I shared my perspective, I was honored to hear her support for higher education reauthorization and the fight to maintain single-sex status. While we chatted over lunch, I was struck by the care she expressed for the experience of college students, the right to the freedom of association, and each of our diverse stories. At the annual FSPAC dinner, I spoke in front of 300 senators, representatives, national officers, and alumni and colledgiate leaders of fraternities and sororities about the sanctions imposed by Harvard University, the value of our organizations, and the need to protect our rights. As I heard the passionate support after my speech, I was humbled by the overwhelming accolades from the Congressional leaders and officers in attendance. When they rose in a standing ovation, I was reenergized in the fight for these organizations that we hold so close to our hearts. The connections that we made in 425 Congressional offices have the power to provide a direct impact on the safety of collegiate housing, cost of attending college, ability for students to find a home in Greek life, and much more. As the 33 new co-sponsorships rolled in over the course of the day, the clear impact that we made in strengthening the Greek experience became evident and inspired us to continue engaging beyond these four days in Washington. This experience may have only lasted a few days, but the impact that it has had on the lives of the student lobbyists, and hopefully college students across the country, will only increase as our community continues to strengthen and unite in this common cause.
