ALPHA XI page 2 G oing into the fall of 2017, the Alpha Xi Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity has large goals, plans and ambitions. Every year Alpha Xi strives to be the best fraternity on campus at KU. It is our goal to improve our status each year and to leave behind a strong legacy that makes our Sigma Chi brothers proud. We firmly believe that we are heading in that direction but realize it is still going to require a great deal of effort and discipline to achieve. ACADEMICS For the spring semester the chapter achieved a GPA of 3.15. We know that we could do better and this in one of our focuses we've turned to even before the fall semester begins. Samuel Wilkerson '20, who is a Chancellor Scholar, was elected by his brothers to be a scholarship chairman. We look forward to being able to use Brother Wilkerson's academic techniques as a building block for our mutual success as a chapter. PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS Looking to the future, we are very excited to build upon our successes at Rock Chalk Revue. We came very close last year and plan to win it all this go-round. We are proud to have donated funds from our Derby Days event to Sigma Chi's national philanthropy of choice, the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, as well as our chapter's chosen philanthropy, Folds of Honor. We look forward to supporting two new organizations this next spring. We were also humbled to have to opportunity to participate in Natural Ties, an organization that fosters friendship between individuals with and without disabilities, one person at a time. These are some of the ways that we have been able to give back to the Lawrence community, and we look forward to expanding our efforts and leaving a bigger impact on campus. I am optimistic that the Alpha Xi Chapter will have a very successful year, and I look forward to sharing our accomplishments soon.
