Charleston coach Greg Kendrick said only one thing stands out to him and his team when thinking about last season, and that's coming up one half short of a Class 3A state championship. "We played one bad half," Kendrick said. "We were leading 20-19 at halftime against a very good Prescott team. We knew we'd have to play good, and we kinda panicked. We didn't do a good job executing. I learned a lot from that game as I reviewed it. I hope the kids learned as much as I did." The Tigers said goodbye to 19 seniors from a team that finished 13-1, but the cupboard is far from bare, Kendrick said. They are particularly loaded at the skill positions led by standout receiver Se- an Michael Flanagan, who has already committed to play at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The 6-foot-2, 194-pounder with 4.49 speed in the 40-yard dash scored 31 touchdowns a year ago in every fashion imaginable, and Kendrick raves about his work ethic. "Of course, he's gifted by God," Kend- rick said. "He's got muscles in places I've never seen. He's a quiet kid, but he's our hardest worker in the weight room, and he'll run through a wall for us. The thing that makes him special is his work ethic, his grit and toughness." The problem for opponents is Fla- nagan has help at the skill spots. Senior all-conference receiver Mason Wisdom (6-0 173) had 54 catches for 720 yards and eight touchdowns to go with senior running back Bradyn Ketter (5-10 195), who rushed for just under 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns and also added 350 more receiving. Kendrick said the quarterback posi- tion was a question mark, but juniors Brayden Caudle (6-1 218) and Dean Lee (6-0 200) have solidified that spot. "Both those young men can be really good," Kendrick said. "But they also have really good weapons around them. Sean has a 4.58 laser-timed. I've got Mason, who ran 4.47 hand-timed. He's just not 6-2, 194." Flanagan played in the secondary a year ago but moved to mike linebacker this season. The Tigers lost their starting front seven on defense and four of their five starters in the offensive line. Kendrick pointed to Paris as another contender in the 3A-4 Conference. The Eagles are also blessed with some talent at the skill positions. Paris coach Bryan Hutson served as high school principal at his alma mater the past two seasons and returns to the sideline this season for his ninth year JUSTUS CABINETS & SUPPLY RESIDENTIAL • COMMERCIAL • FREE ESTIMATES CABINETS • COUNTER TOPS HARDWARE • PAINT PLUMBING • ELECTRICAL VET SUPPLIES PROPANE & KEROSENE FEED JIM & BETSY JUSTUS HOME CENTER (479) 442-7879 2457 N.
