COACH SPEAK "There probably is some satisfaction (on back to back 12-1 seasons), but not around here. Not that we're not proud of our kids, that's not the issue. We set a goal to be the best and when we fell short of it, it's disappointing. It's heartbreaking," Jones said. SCHeDule sept. 1 ................ On the other side of the state, Pine Bluff and Jonesboro are thought to be the top contenders after tying for the conference championship last year. The Zebras were state champions in 2015 and lost 31-30 at Greenwood in the state semifinals last year. "El Dorado, Pine Bluff and Jonesboro those guys have a ton of talent back," Jones said. "Benton is getting better ev- ery year. 6A is going to be plenty tough, a lot tougher than last year." Siloam Springs won a pair of first- round playoff games in its first three years playing in Class 6A, but the Pan- thers have missed the postseason the last two years, including slumping to a 1-9 season in 2016. The Panthers will lean heavily on several juniors, including quarterback Landon Ellis, running back Kaiden Thrailkill, offensive and defensive line- man Corbin Collins and linebacker Chase Chandler. Siloam Springs coach Bryan Ross said the challenges of the 6A-West Confer- ence were different than competing in the 7A-West, like the Panthers did in 2012 and 2013. "You do have a lot of speed (in the 6A-West)," Ross said. "I think a lot of it is we were down last year. I was looking back at those 2013 and 2014 teams, if we played that schedule last year with those teams, I think they match up pretty well in my opinion. But it doesn't work like that. It was just kind of a perfect storm I guess." Ross said Greenwood is the clear-cut favorite. "I think it's always Greenwood's to lose," he said. "When you do what they've done so consistently over the years, it's just automatic that it's theirs to lose." v Continued from preceding page 2016 Conference Standings 6A-West Team ..............................
