James Carter enters his third year as coach of the McDonald County High School soccer team with a solid group of returning starters. Carter has compiled a 10-24 record in the first two years of the school's soccer program, including a 3-15 mark last year. "Having an activity bus run before school started has really helped us out a lot this year," Carter said. "I really want to thank the administration and (Athletic Director Nick Martin) and everybody else involved. At this time the past two years we haven't had the numbers we have this year because kids couldn't get to practice." Carter said his squad will be young again this year. "There will be some growing pains, but that's OK," Carter said. "We will be fit and we have a lot of individual skills." Leading the skill players is sophomore Eh Doh Say. "Eh Doh is probably the goal scorer that stands out," Carter said. "I think he will draw a lot of fouls because he is hard to handle. He is pretty special." Other returning starters include Dylan Allison, Jeobany Marcos, Mu Dar, Jaw Dui, Jaw Sho, Arturo Morales, Alfredo Sanchez and Carlos Marcos. Key newcomers include transfer Malachi Smith while Uriel and Ulizes Lazaro are back after not playing last year. Carter said his offense dictates play- ers keeping control of the ball. "We really work with the kids on find- ing an option to hold possession instead of just kicking it away," Carter said. "I am pretty particular on the way we do that. Positioning on the field and tactics are very important to our offense. Defensively, we have to be organized and work really hard." Carter said that, with the youth of the team, improvement at every practice is stressed, but in addition to teaching soccer, the staff also teaches life lessons. "We focus on getting better every day and that process," Carter said. "But on top of that, we use soccer as a tool to guide these young men to make good decisions. In our opinion that's the bigger picture and that's something we Go Mustangs! MUSTANG DRUG 417-845-7799 704C S. 59 Hwy, Anderson, Mo.
