The program is designed to provide a range of opportunities to develop the under-forty leader in a range of life, career, and business skills. One of the main goals of FYP is to keep young professionals in Fayetteville. The intent is to create a network in the Cumberland County area that fosters personal and professional development through relationship building. These emerging leaders benefit from skills enhancement, community enrichment, and career advancement opportunities; to engage them to take ownership in the future successes of our community. All this is achieved through both networking socials and training events, designed to enhance both the personal and professional skills needed to succeed in their chosen career. The 2017-2018 Chair of the Fayetteville Young Professionals is Cumberland County native Jalisha Pone. The twenty-nine year old graduated with a dual undergraduate degree in Hospitality Tourism Management (Event Management concentration) and Communication Studies (Business Minor) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In May 2013, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master's degree in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University. Currently Jalisha serves as the Associate Director of Development at Fayetteville State University but previously served as a Relay for Life Community Manager with the American Cancer Society servicing Lee, Harnett and Chatham Counties. Her career aspirations are to encourage and inspire, giving to support those in need whether it is due to an illness or financial constraints. In addition to serving as the Chair of Fayetteville Young Professionals, she is also an active member in The Junior League of Fayetteville. Ms. Pone is a firm believer that you live by example and not by words alone; in other words "be the change that you want to see."
