I believe it's my mission to reinvent pearl jewelry.
I took this on as a challenge when I fi rst started
working with pearls and have always sought
opportunities to create in unexpected ways.
Launching her collection in 2011, little h
designer Hisano Shepherd specializes in
creating intimate, delicate jewelry through
thought-provoking and innovative pearl
designs. Her most recent Luxe Collection
has received notable awards including a
sweep of fi rst, second and third place in the
pearls category of the INDESIGN
contest as well as fi rst place in the
diamonds category. The same collection
has also earned Shepherd the Cindy
Edelstein Emerging Designer Award.
Each one-of-a-kind piece uses the most
luxurious and sought after pearls in the
world - Souffl é, Tahitian and South Seas -
that are then sliced down their assess, bored
and polished to a smooth concave set fi lled
with up to 2 karats of colorful gemstones
including natural-color-sapphires, rubies or
black, yellow, blue and white diamonds.
The effect is a stunning interpretation of a
natural-forming geode. "It's a romantic
notion that the interior of a pearl can be
fi lled with luscious gems. The techniques
used to create these collections require such
precision and are really groundbreaking
when applied to something like a pearl,
creating a new dialogue in modern
jewelry," says Shepherd.
