22 www.thejewelrybook.com O M I D E D S I G N E R U P C L O S E HOW CAN COLOR MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A RETAILER'S (MONTHLY) BUSINESS? Color sells for better margins, for example $20,000 in additional monthly color sales can add as much to your bottom line as $100,000+ in diamond sales. Also, in my experience, color clients tend to collect more, so it's more feasible to build relationships, and create repeat clients/collectors. E DUCATION IS ESSENTIAL, WHAT ARE OMI'S 5 TOP TIPS TO TO TELL A STORY ABOUT COLOR TO YOUR CUSTOMER? The most vital part is to educate the client on value, most sales aren't made because the client does not understand the value of the piece or stone they are purchasing. For example, why does that 2.00ct alexandrite ring cost $50,000? This is the opportunity to discuss rarity, origin, cutting and color. Color - pertaining to what colors, or variations in color, a particular gem- stone might display, and which tones and colors are the most valuable. Discussing treatments is also impor- tant and not something to shy away from. It is important to explain to your customer that for the most part, treat- ments are common, stable and accept- ed. By being an AGTA member, and by purchasing from an AGTA member a customer can be confi dent in your disclosure, since all AGTA members are required to follow enhancement guidelines and sign a code of ethics. W HAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN, AND WHAT MADE IT SO SPECIAL? Our 20.03ct blue sapphire ring is currently my favorite design. It is classic, yet unique with an edge. We built it with a tapered French custom-cut baguette shank, slightly curved and fl anked on either side with round diamonds. For a big look, it's incredibly comfortable to wear. I added black rhodium, a bit of a signature look on Omi Privé pieces, to the sapphire halo around the center stone. The sapphire itself, a gorgeous royal blue, is very visually appealing, mysteri- ous and draws you into its deep blue depths while your eye tries to absorb the many other details of the ring. Since it's too hard to just pick one, I am also very excited about our new Lightning Ridge opal ring. The moment I fi rst saw the opal I knew I wanted to combine it with paraiba tourmaline. The blues within the opal immediately evokes the Caribbean Sea. Color is what drives the passion behind so many of Omi Privé's designs, and I think this ring exemplifi es that. 20.03ct Oval Sapphire and Diamond Ring, Platinum, Vault Collection. 9.66ct Black Opal, Paraiba Tourmaline, Sapphire and Diamond Ring, Platinum, Vault Collection.
