TAU TALES The newsletter for alumnae and friends of Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi at the University of Kansas kualphadeltapi.com Fundraising Efforts Are Key to the Success of "Building Pride" Construction has officially begun on the long-awaited facelift to the Chapter House. The renovation project, known as "Building Pride," includes facade and grounds changes to achieve a traditional Greek revival look. Updates will also be made to the House Director's apartment. The women of Tau are so excited to have this project completed in time for Fall Formal Recruitment. The original builder of the Tau Chapter House, B.A. Green Construction, is the general contractor for this renovation. In mid-April, B.A. Green began digging the piers for the new pillars that will go in front of the house and started the steel work and carpentry. Other exterior updates include: new Pella windows, new fire escape stairs, a new roof which will be extended out to the pillars and new paint on the entire house. Changes to the landscaping will also be made to include a walkway of inscribed bricks purchased by sisters and friends of Alpha Delta Pi. Inside, the House Director's apartment will be expanded to include a kitchenette, an office, and an updated bathroom. The project's architect, Julie Black Wellner '78, generously donated her and her company's ( Wellner Architects Inc.) time to create the drawings and organize project management work. Additionally, Kris Dannenberg Swords '80, donated her expertise as a master gardener to advise on landscaping. Without these two wonderful alumnae, this project would not be possible. In order to make the "Building Pride" project a success, Tau is focusing on three fundraising efforts. First, we encouraged sisters to buy an inscribed legacy brick that will be featured in the new walkway and will become a visible piece of Tau history. Those of you who bought bricks before May 30 are guaranteed to have them included in the walkway in time for recruitment and other celebratory events in the fall. However, because the legacy brick program is an ongoing program, if you missed the May 30 date, you can still visit bricksrus.com/order/kuadpi/ to purchase a brick. Remember, you do not have to order a brick by yourself; many sisters are pairing up with Alpha class sisters, big and little diamond sisters, and roommates to purchase a brick as a group. A legacy brick is also a great way to honor the memory of a lost loved one, congratulate a recent college graduate, or to welcome a newly initiated sister into Alpha Delta Pi. Summer 2017 Second, on Saturday, November 11, 2017, Tau's House Corporation is hosting a fundraiser to benefit Project "Building Pride" at the Oread in Lawrence, Kansas. The Azure Blue Gala will follow a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Chapter House. Alpha Delta Pi has a block of rooms reserved at the Oread, so please call today in order to receive the special event rate. The women of Tau invite you to make plans to return to Lawrence for this historic event. Special tours of recent additions to the KU campus (such as the new Capitol Federal Hall and the DeBruce Center) are also planned for this exciting day. The fundraiser gala will feature a DJ and a variety of premiere raffle items, including Kansas City Symphony tickets and KU men's basketball tickets. The event ticket price ($85 for an individual or $150 for a couple) includes heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. A formal invitation will follow later this summer. Finally, alumnae and friends of Tau Chapter can assist with Project "Building Pride" by making a contribution to the 2017 Above and Beyond Annual Appeal. Donors may choose to make a one-time contribution or split your generous gift into monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual payments. You can even set up a recurring charge to your credit card or draft from your checking account, whichever you prefer. All contributions to this campaign will be used by the House Corporation to assist with the renovation cost. You can contribute by visiting kualphadeltapi.com. Construction begins on the long-awaited renovations to achieve a more traditional Greek revival look on the Tau Chapter House.
