The forum is being held to gather community feedback to incorporate into the five-year Cumberland County Community Transportation Service Plan. The plan reviews, analyzes and recommends strategies for operating and managing CTP's transit services. The workshop is geared toward community members who use, or are interested in transportation services in Cumberland County. Call 910-678-7624 for information. Leadership Program Seeks Applicants Register of Deeds Collecting School Supplies The Institute for Community Leadership is accepting applications for its 2017-2018 class. The deadline to apply is July 17. The program is designed to develop and empower community members, especially those not previously identified, who are able and willing to commit to leadership and service roles in addressing important issues in Fayetteville and Cumberland County. The institute will start its 14th year in September and is a joint effort sponsored by the City of Fayetteville, Cumberland County Government, Cumberland County Schools, Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College and Methodist University. Seven monthly training sessions will be held from September through April. Sessions are held in different locations from 6 to 9 p.m., usually on the third Tuesday of the month. The program is free. Applicants must be registered Cumberland County voters, agree to attend every session and be willing to volunteer with one community organization. The Register of Deeds office is holding its annual school supply drive for homeless Cumberland County school children through Aug. 1. Individuals, businesses, groups and churches are encouraged to give. The Register of Deeds office would like to collect supplies to fill 800 book bags to be donated to the approximately 600 homeless children in county schools, as well as 200 additional bags for homeless relief events and the American Red Cross to help families who have experienced a disaster. Donated items can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Register of Deeds office in Room 114 of the Cumberland County Courthouse, 117 Dick St. The deadline to drop off items is Aug. 1. The following supplies are needed: pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, composition books, folders, notebook paper, pencil sharpeners, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, toothbrushes, toothpaste and hand sanitizer. The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners believes that all citizens should have the opportunity to participate in their local government. One way of participating is by serving on a citizen advisory board. The citizens who volunteer for these positions are the advisers who make recommendations that ultimately shape the future of their community.
