"Okja," a film about a young girl who must fight to save her best friend (a giant animal called Okja) from a multi- national corporation, hits the streaming service Wednesday, June 28. After living together for some time and growing to love one another, Okja — a ge- netically engineered ani- mal that looks like a cross between a hippopotamus and a pig — is taken away from Mija's (Seo-Hyun Ahn, "Dream High") home in Korea and transported to New York City. Mija sets out on a journey to bring her giant friend home, and braves all sorts of chal- lenges along the way. The film received mixed re- views during its premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, partly due to tech- nical difficulties; however, it has been more favorably received on review aggre- gator site Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Tilda Swinton ("Doctor Strange," 2016), Paul Dano ("There Will Be Blood," 2007) and the Ko- rean child actor Ahn, the film has a didactic quality, with fairy-tale elements and a moral message. Watch it with your family starting Wednesday, June 28, on Netflix. BINGE THIS: The beautiful Naomi Watts ("King Kong," 2005) stars in "Gypsy," a psycho- logical thriller from Netflix, which acts as a "what not to do" for therapists and social workers. In this new 10-episode drama, Watts stars as therapist Jean Hol- loway, who becomes overly involved in the lives of her patients. Awkward and in- appropriate encounters en- sue — including personal and sexual relationships — as Holloway spirals fur- ther out of control. As many episodes were di- rected by Sam Taylor-John- son ("Fifty Shades of Grey," 2015), viewers can expect some heat and steamy scenes. The show also features Sophie Cook- son ("Kingsman: The Secret Service," 2014) and Billy Crudup ("Almost Famous," 2000). Catch the new se- ries when it premieres Fri- day, June 30, on Netflix. The Ong Bak trilogy is available for streaming on Hulu starting Thursday, June 29. While the first two films seem unrelated until you watch the third movie, the series is a gorgeous story that's totally worth a binge. The first, titled "Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior" (2003) follows a man named Ting — played by the mesmerizing Tony Jaa ("Furious 7," 2015) — who is trained in Muay Thai, or Thai boxing. When the head of a sacred statue is stolen from his small vil- lage, he must track it down and bring it back in order to save his town from de- spair. The second movie fol- lows the young orphaned slave Tien (also played by Jaa), who is rescued by an old man and trained to fight. As he grows up, he seeks revenge against the slave traders and the war- lord who killed his parents. In the third and final in- stallment, Tien has just re- ceived a horrible beating, but is rescued by Master Bua (Nirut Sirichanya, "The Hangover Part II," 2011). He returns to his village, which he finds has been taken over by a villain, and fights to free the town from the villain's grasp. If you like martial arts movies with lots of action and fighting, these movies are for you! Watch them on Hulu starting Thursday, June 29.
