Yoke- fellow began in 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Forest City under the direction of the minister at that time, Rev. Jerry Mur- ray and church member, Jewel Hill. Though both are now deceased, their legacy lives on 50 years later. Yokefellow's mission is to assist low-income fami- lies in crisis. Assistance is available with food, cloth- ing, utilities (power/water), heating, cooling, rent or mortgage, and life sustain- ing medications. This year's celebration was held at First United Methodist Church in For- est City. The Annual Meet- ing is held for the purpose of inducting new members of the Board of Direc- tors, show appreciation to the churches and coun- cil members, businesses, civic groups, and individu- als that support Yokefellow in so many ways through- out the year. It is a spe- cial time of appreciation to the volunteers that give so freely and tirelessly of their time and talents in order to make Yokefellow the out- standing organization that it is today. Board Chairman, Glenn Deck called the meeting to order. At the recommen- dation of the Nominating Committee, four new board members were elected by the council: Tony Spen- cer, Jill Miracle, Charles Deviney, and Pam Blice. A beautiful scrapbook, as- sembled by Marion and George Moyer, displayed "Fifty Years of Memories" for all to see. Speakers for the evening were Jack and Carolyn Osborne. They spoke of events that led them to a lifetime of service to others and the rewards that volun- teering can bring into the life of the volunteer as well as those they are working to assist. Entertain- ment was presented by The McEntire Family and t h o r o u g h l y enjoyed by all. One highlight of the evening was a presen- tation made to Yokefellow by the Quilting Group at Mt. Vernon Bap- tist Church. A beautiful Prayer Quilt was present- ed by Linda McEntire and the 50th Anni- versary Com- mittee Chair- man, Emma Walker. The b e a u t i f u l l y detailed quilt, bearing the Yokefellow logo, and a combination of golden materials to repre- sent the many facets of the organization, the coopera- tion and contribution of so many in the community, woven together to create an organization that has been able to have an infl u- ence in thousands of lives over the years. This will be prepared for display in the Yokefellow Thrift Store. A stained glass art piece was presented to previous Director, Carolyn Hardin, as an outstanding service award and will be displayed in her honor at Yokefellow as well. Yokefellow Board of Di- rectors and Staff would like to thank each mem- ber of the community for their support throughout the years and encourage others to become a part of "sharing the burden" to those in our county that are in need of a helping hand.
