ALUMNAE NEWS Margaret Fesler Ewing '43 is still going strong at 92 years of age and continues to live in her home in Kansas City, Mo. "Most of my contemporaries have 'left the train,'" she says. "My younger friends and I go to lunch once a month. We enjoy our memories of college days and the lifelong friends we met. I now am a great-grandmother to Walter and Ivy Ewing. God has truly blessed me." Audrey Harris Chew '44 is 90 years young and sill swims laps in Lebanon, Ohio. She belongs to the P.E.O. sisterhood and the Red Hatters Society. In addition, Audrey played in a golf league until this year. She has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Martha Gragg Chase '48 says, "At the age of 88, I feel lucky to be in fairly good health." Martha is still active in several bridge clubs and other organizations in Joplin, Mo. Mary and her husband, Jack, live in Springfield, Mo. Winona Klotz Townsend '48 was only in the chapter as a junior and senior at KU, having come from Coffeyville Junior College in the fall of 1947. "Many of us lived later in Johnson County and eight of us formed a bridge club in 1955. Four of us still get together once a month for lunch—myself, Carolyn Keith Stevenson '46, Betty Link Marshall '46, and Margaret Fesler Ewing '43. We are very close to each other; it is wonderful," Winona says. Carol Krehbiel Kreischer '49 shares that she would like to hear from sisters who were at KU from 1947-55. Carol lives in Ann Arbor, Mich., and has a daughter, Kathleen. "While I am there, I always enjoy my ACW alumnae sisters," Jane says. Judy Chambers Strick '58 shares, "Happy 2017 to you all! I am living in two states, San Francisco, Calif., and Goodyear, Ariz." Judy is always looking for cabin mates to share a suite with. Her husband passed away on February 22, 2016. "If you fly Southwest Airlines and have a Phoenix crew, my son, Dan, flies D position (back). Introduce yourself—check in!" They have four granddaughters, all of whom are teenagers this year. Sherryl's younger son, Chad, is also a KU graduate and is senior vice president of sales and marketing of Greenpoint Tech. Sherryl stays very active in the Church of Resurrection traditional choir, helps with the blood bank, and attends several bible studies in Kansas City, Mo. E-mail: jbourgehathaway@mac.com Joyce Grist Evans '65 retired from the U.S. Government accountability office on January 9, 2016, after 14 years there. Joyce moved back to Lawrence, Kan., in May 2016 with her husband, George. He also retired from the federal government on October 31, 2016. "We are back home after 30 years of living in Virginia, first in the Tidewater area and then in the Washington, D.C., area, when we lived in Fairfax County and commuted into D.C.," Joyce says. E-mail: pruettjhawk@bellsouth.net Beth Donhowe Callaghan '68 has lived in San Antonio, Texas, since 1988, when her husband, John, was transferred there for his last assignment in the Army. Beth owned a small sewing workroom, doing custom sewing for decorators. "Once in a while, I still get talked into a job or two, but for now I'm teaching the craft to two or three young women," she says. "It was a joy to see my pledge mother, Sandee Smith '68, last year here in San Antonio and in Santa Fe!" "Missing 'my' kids and 'my families,' but not the business side," she says. "I am taking college-level courses in things I couldn't, like art/Greek history and photography." Nancy's only grandchild, William, lives in Lawrence, Kan., and is 19 years old. "He's a hoot as I try to get there every four to six weeks," she said. "My other child, Carl, has moved back to Lawrence and is an optometrist in Leavenworth, Bonner Springs, and Kansas City, Kan. My daughter, Melanie, drives into Kansas City, where she is a pediatric nurse practitioner." Then I became an attorney practicing education law for 23 years. I eventually retired in 2006 due to poor health. Then, out of boredom (in part), I obtained my private investigator's license, started my own business, Kathy Collins, J.D., School Investigations, in 2015 and I'm loving it! I work as much as I want to and enjoy (semi) retirement when I'm not snooping around, pretending I'm Paul(a) Drake!" Kathy lives in Des Moines, Iowa. "The challenges of the job coupled with international travel have made it perfect," Sheila says.
