H ello, everyone! I am excited to update you on the happenings of Phi Chapter. It has been a semester full of advancement and change. CHAPTER HOSTS FUN-FILLED SISTERHOOD ACTIVITIES We continue to focus on our sisterhood through a variety of sisterhood events. To begin the semester, we welcomed five new members. They are lovely women who we expect to contribute greatly to our sisterhood. We held a "Galentine's" celebration on February 13 with pizza and sweets, where the new members had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the other women and mingle with their soon-to-be sisters. One afternoon, everyone was invited to the chapter house where we provided snacks and crafting materials for "Crafternoon," so our women could enjoy each other's company and paint canvases in celebration of McDowell month. We also went ice skating in Kansas City and held a sisterhood event at a trampoline park in Overland Park, where our women had lots of fun being silly and showcasing their athleticism. We encourage you to follow us on social media, especially our Instagram account (@axo_ku), to keep up with all the fun we are having! SISTERS LOOK FORWARD TO UPCOMING EVENTS On February 11, we hosted a "Holidate" themed date party, where our women and their dates dressed up as a holiday of their choice. The event was held at the Double Tree Hotel in Lawrence and included music, dancing, and a delicious waffle bar. We also held another date party at the end of the semester, which was our formal. Along with formal, women enjoyed a few sisterhood events such as a Royals game and a private movie showing at a local theater, as well as Mom's Day, Derby Days, and Senior Week. UNDERGRADUATES RAISE MORE THAN $5,000 THROUGH MR. ALPHA CHI Our spring philanthropic event was Mr. Alpha Chi, a male pageant showcasing 11 men from the university. After an outfit of choice, talent, and question round, Sigma Alpha Epsilon's representative was crowned Mr. Alpha Chi, with men from Phi Mu Alpha and Delta Tau Delta coming in second and third. The event was held on March 14 in Woodruff Auditorium. We raised over $5,000 benefitting the Willow Domestic Violence Center. Earlier in the year, we participated in Alpha Chi Omega's national Healthy Relationships Week by tabling in the Union to promote domestic violence awareness and help educate our community further. Many of our women take pride in our philanthropy, and it is incredible to see the work they are willing to put in to support such a worthy cause. SISTER ELECTED AS STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT Much like last semester, the women of Phi Chapter are extremely involved on campus. Junior Mady Womack '14 was elected as the new Student Body president. We are so proud of Mady and look forward to all she will do for the University in the coming year. We have four women serving as orientation assistants and countless women participating in and leading other organizations such as Student Alumni Leadership Board, Alternative Breaks, The Agency (an on-campus advertising agency), KUJH (student-run television station), and many more. Even with sisterhood and social events, philanthropic activities, and campus involvement, we encourage and reward academic success. This semester, we completely revamped our academic contract to help each of our members perform their best in the classroom. The executive board is dedicated to helping our women seek the heights and becoming the strong women Alpha Chi Omega so proudly boasts. Throughout the semester, our women have attended events such as Leadership Academy and recruitment training put on by Headquarters to further our leadership abilities. The executive board, as well as non-executive and committee members, has been working closely with a national consultant to prepare for this year's formal recruitment and continue our chapter's advancement. THANK YOU, ALUMNAE Thank you for your continued support of our organization. It is because of what you do that we are able to ensure Alpha Chi Omega has a strong presence and legacy at the University of Kansas. After looking at old Alpha Chi scrapbooks and hearing stories of past classes, our women would love to feel more of an alumnae presence. If any alumnae are ever in Lawrence, please feel free to stop by. We would be happy to give you a tour of the chapter house, discuss the state of the sorority, or host you for lunch or dinner. Johanna Maska '00 is a fellow at the Dole Institute of Politics, and our women have enjoyed the chance to attend her events and see the kind of woman Phi Chapter can help someone become. We are looking forward to finishing this semester strong, enjoying our summer break, and coming back for another great recruitment. Rock Chalk!
