Van Cleef & Arpels stunned press and retail- ers alike with the addition of the Lady Arpels™ Papillon Automate watch, depicting the sporad- ic and often random movements of a butterfl y's fl uttering wings, via the watchmaker's usage of an intricately crafted automaton module. The scene on the dial comprises not just the butter- fl y (which also moves in accompaniment with the wearer's motions), but also a whimsical gar- den of greenish-blue hue created with brilliant cut diamonds, perfectly matched precious gem- stones, and intricate enameling processes. Independent watch company Urwerk also took attendees on a walk through the fi elds with an eleven-piece limited edition Flower Power ver- sion of their UR-106 model. The brand – one that prides itself on its eccentricity, creativity, and complexity – used 239 Top Wesselton qual- ity diamonds (equaling 2.53 carats total) to give its otherwise industrial-like, complicated watch case a feminine, organic feel. A centrally located and diamond set lotus fl ower acts as a pivot to the satellite indication. Three additional fl owers crafted in white gold and diamonds and com- posed of fi ve mounted petals fi t perfectly in between the hour satellites, working like a per- petually moving carousel as to ensure the move- ment's balance.
