Sighs of Psi 3 ALUMNI NEWS The Psi DKEs celebrate the life of beloved brother Talbot Ritchey '17 at the 2017 Undertaker's Ball. I t is an honor to take over as president of the House Corporation after Black Chaffe '83 and his eight years of outstanding leadership. Input is welcome from each of you on how we can improve on an already outstanding Chapter. In listening to Chapter members, alumni, and the House Corporation, all seem to agree that the focus should be on the following: Pledge Program With the leadership of the upperclassmen, the pledge program will continue to emphasize the rich history and traditions of the Chapter. Additionally, the pledges will learn about Chapter mystics, leadership, character building, and the importance of laying a proper foundation on how to be successful in life. The intent is to create the perfect formula to bond the class together in brotherhood and pride in being part of DKE. Academics The Chapter had an outstanding semester last fall. They ranked 10th (3.08 GPA) and the pledge class second (3.43 GPA) out of the 31 fraternities. Sixteen made the President's List (4.0 GPA) and an additional 36 made the Dean's list (3.5 to 3.99 GPA). This success was due not only their desire to excel, but to The Man and Scholastic Chairman's leadership in understanding the importance of academics. These two, along with the help of others, monitored grades throughout the semester, found tutors for those needing assistance, and structured the pledge class study hall in a most effective way. House Corporation Welcomes New President, Sets Goals for 2017 Campus Involvement DKE has historically been one of the leading fraternities on campus when it comes to campus activities and involvement. This tradition goes back to the founding of the SGA by former U. S. Senator and Psi member Lister Hill 1914. Going forward, we will continue to encourage involvement in Student Government Association, Interfraternity Council, Capstone Men, Jason's, and other honorary opportunities. Philanthropy We have been a leader in philanthropy from the beginning, and will continue to focus on the importance of helping others by giving back to our community. Parent and Alumni Activities Plans are underway to make Parent's Weekend an annual event and Psi Day Tea an even more special occasion, including parents, faculty, university administration, and civic leaders in a very enjoyable event on the Friday afternoon before Homecoming. Again, I look forward to hearing from you on any ideas or suggestions you might have. ITB, Brock Jones '84 (205) 292-1041 brock.j.jones1961@gmail.com
